From "Michael Z. Spivey" Mon May 22 21:26:14 1995 From: "Michael Z. Spivey" Subject: LSMSAAA business meeting minutes To: lsmsa@mit.edu Date: Mon, 22 May 1995 18:58:15 -0500 (CDT) One of the things I want to do as secretary is post the minutes of the business meetings on the mailing list. Since there's about 8 times as many people on the mailing list as show up to the business meetings, this will end up being the best way to let the alumni know what exactly LSMSAAA is doing. Yesterday's meeting was very interesting. We did some other things, but the biggest event was Dr. Peters fielding questions from alumni and presenting his side of the conflicts that have been going on at the school for the past few months. Since I think everyone will be interested in the details of what went on, I'm putting together an unadbridged (so-to-speak) edition of my notes from the meeting. It'll be a monstrous post, and I want to make sure the mailing list is up before I take the time to type it in, but I'm going to be email-less for the next week or so. Hopefully the list will be back up by then, and I'll be able to post it. But I wanted everyone to know that I do have something to post about the meeting. There are a few things of interest I'd like to go ahead and mention, though. 1. Mr. Ebarb finally finished his doctorate, so know he's Dr. Ebarb. It's going to take me a while to get used to that one. 2. Dr. Peters said he knew of only two faculty members not planning to return next year: Dr. Kim Browning and Dr. Yvonne Oey, both in the chemistry department. Dr. Oey's departure has nothing to do with the current situation at the school; her family is starting a company (pharmaceutical, I think), and she's going to be the American representative for the company. 3. The next Board of Directors meeting is in August, and Teresa Culpepper Carroll (our new alumni association president) is making plans to attend. We're going to have an officers' meeting a few weeks before that to discuss any issues Teresa feels needs to be brought up at the Board meeting. She doesn't have e-mail access as of yet, so if anyone has something they think needs to be said at the meeting or just wants to let the officers know about something they think is important, please don't hesitate to e-mail me at the address below. 4. Unless we took in a lot more money yesterday from the crawfish boil than I think, the Alumni Association is currently about $300 in the hole. We need those dues!! It's $10 a year, or $15 a year for ten years, upon which you become a lifetime member. Mail them to Cindy Allen, 715 College Ave., Natchitoches, LA 71457, and make checks payable to LSMSAAA.
