William Findley '99 had more precise data. It does looks like the average aid award is in the same ballpark (but larger at Caltech). Will also includes information on average cummulative debt, which is interesting. (This is for the '98-'99 year) Caltech MIT % recieving need-based grants 57% 50% avg. cost after recieving grants $16,615 $20,023 average discount from total cost 44% 40% I also have information regarding the average debt load for the graduating class of '98. This includes any loans taken out by the student, but not by the parents. The average amount of debt indicated is the average amount of debt of only those students who graduated with debt. Thus, the average doesn't include those graduating debt free. Caltech MIT % grads with debt 59% 70% average amount of debt $9,333 $21,617 rank (average amount of debt) 3rd least 7th most ------------------------------------------------------------------------
